Just as the philosophy of the Enlightenment shaped the revolution, the answer to the Enlightenment- Romanticism shapes much of American Literature and philosophy in the 1800s. The ideas of the Romantics can be seen reflected in the thinking of the American people and its new government leading into the Civil War.
